Mulch, Firewood & Natural Wood Products in Western Massachusetts

At Northeast Tree Care, we believe that the work we do shouldn’t end when a tree is removed or pruned. Being conscientious about the by-products created from our work is an important part of how we operate.

We take pride in turning what many companies treat as waste into useful, environmentally responsible products that benefit both our clients and the land.

We offer a variety of natural wood and landscape products throughout Western Massachusetts, including Deerfield, Amherst, Northampton, Sunderland, Hadley, and surrounding Pioneer Valley communities.

All of our materials are free from dyes and chemicals, making them a safe and sustainable choice for your property.

Sustainable Use of Tree By-Products

Every tree care project produces material that can be repurposed.

Rather than sending these materials to waste, we process and reuse them in ways that support:

  • soil health

  • landscape improvement

  • energy use

  • sustainable land practices

Whenever possible, we are happy to leave these materials on-site for clients to reuse—or provide options for pickup, delivery, or installation.

Our Products

Wood Chips & Natural Mulch

Wood chips are created from tree limbs and brush during pruning and tree removal projects.

We frequently offer to leave wood chips on-site for clients to use as mulch. These chips are ideal for:

  • garden beds

  • tree rings

  • pathways and erosion control

  • natural weed suppression

In addition to mulch, wood chips can be further processed into compost or loam when combined with other organic materials.

Wood chips are also increasingly used as a renewable energy source through modern processing methods.

Firewood

Larger hardwood material generated from tree work is processed into firewood.

Our firewood is suitable for:

  • residential wood stoves

  • fireplaces

  • outdoor fire pits

When feasible, high-quality hardwood may also be milled into saw logs for lumber rather than used as firewood.

Softwood & Utility Wood

Larger softwood material can also be repurposed.

  • Higher-quality softwood may be used for saw logs

  • Remaining material is cut and split for use in larger furnace systems

This type of wood is typically better suited for applications where soot and creosote are less of a concern than in standard residential chimneys.

Screened Loam & Clean Fill

Soil excavated during tree and land work is carefully stockpiled and repurposed.

Depending on quality, materials may be:

  • screened and processed into loam

  • reused as clean fill for grading and site work

This allows us to reduce waste while providing useful materials for landscaping and construction projects.

Compost & Organic Material

Leaves, clippings, and other organic materials are processed into compost.

This compost can be used for:

  • gardens

  • planting beds

  • soil amendment

Reusing organic material helps improve soil structure and supports long-term plant health.

Pickup, Delivery & Installation

We offer flexible options for accessing our products.

You can:

  • have materials left on-site during your project

  • schedule pickup at our location by appointment

  • arrange delivery to your property

  • request installation for mulch, loam, or other materials

We’re happy to work with you to find the best solution for your needs.

Environmentally Responsible Tree Care

Our approach to tree care extends beyond pruning and removal.

By repurposing materials and minimizing waste, we aim to:

  • reduce environmental impact

  • support sustainable land use

  • provide additional value to our clients

This commitment is part of what defines Northeast Tree Care.
